Tomorrow night FRENCH ‘24 part one kicks things off with our Simenon double bill we covered for you last time—this is one of two events that I hope those with limited time/resources available will make an effort to attend this show and the Sunday evening screening of LES MISÉRABLES, which Dennis Harvey kindly recommended over at 48Hills this week (it’s at the tail end of his article, which provides the best overall media coverage of the series)…
Here is the status of tickets/passes as of noon today:
—October 4 (Tumultes/Justin de Marseille, Little Roxie) and October 5/matinee (Tempete/Le dernier sou/Le dessous des cartes, Little Roxie) SOLD OUT
—October 5 evening (Avant le deluge/Les amants de Verone, Little Roxie) very limited tickets available
—All-festival passes are sold out—BUT we have a tiny amount of wiggle room there for the first 2-3 of you who might have procrastinated in purchasing. If that describes you, look for me tomorrow evening at the Big Roxie while we are handing out festival programs when the doors open at 6pm.
There are still a sizable quantity of seats available for the screenings in the big theater.
Our best remaining discount deal: the “Big Roxie Pass”…$60 brings admission to seven films in the big theater:
Thursday October 3 Love is My Profession (Bardot-Gabin)/The Snow Was Black
Sunday October 6 Lilac/They Were Five aka La belle équipe (young Gabin matinée)/LES MISÉRABLES!
Monday October 7 A Friend Will Come Tonight/Not Guilty (Michel Simon goes crazy!)
These can be purchased online with via the link above or at the Roxie box office.
PLEASE NOTE that if you purchase a Big Roxie Pass, you will receive a free printed copy of my 2020 BRIGHT LIGHTS essay “The Big Sigh”, my “warmup” for the French noir book that be available at FRENCH ‘24 Part Two. (All-festival pass holders will of course receive a copy as well.)
WE hope to see you tomorrow evening!
